Butterflies, fun and thank you!

The Butterfly Workshop on Saturday was a huge success and everyone had fun and learned a lot about those wonderful fragile creatures.

We thank you for attending and wanted everyone to know the exhibit will be in the greenhouse for the rest of the week. Come and see the caterpillars that have changed into chrysalis since Saturday and the chrysalis that are opening into beautiful butterflies!

The next workshop, "Fall Perennials" will be held Saturday, September 15at 11:00. We will learn about all of those wonderful, colorful perennials that wait until fall to bloom and really shine!

CREATING A BUTTERFLY GARDEN AND NATIVE POLLINATORS (BACKYARD CONSERVATION) WORKSHOP

“Creating a Butterfly Garden”
and
“Native Pollinators” Workshop

Saturday, August 25th 10:00am

butterflybutterfly on ageratum

As you probably assumed, we got rained out on Saturday, August 11th  with this class and have decided to combine it with the Pollinator class on Saturday, August 25th. It will be held rain or shine in our greenhouse where it is shady and comfortable.

This will probably be the most exciting lecture to date as the entire greenhouse has been turned into a butterfly house with many varieties of colorful butterflies flying around you.The caterpillars that will soon turn into the butterfly chrysalis and then butterflies, will be on display and a sampling of the plants used for butterfly food and those special plants that attract them.

This is a great hands-on class for children! They could hold and pet the caterpillars and see the many live butterflies. Each child will be given a sunflower to take home and plant ( great source for our pollinators !) – a fun time for the little ones to learn!

Next workshop: “Fall Perennials”Saturday, Sept. 1st 10am

Fall Vegetable Gardening

Don't give up on your vegetable garden yet!
It is time to pull out some of the summer veggie plants and replace them with the cool weather producers such as broccoli, collards, cauliflower, etc.
Take advantage of the long growing season we are fortunate to have here in the southeast and extend your vegetable harvest into the fall and winter!
At this workshop we will learn which varieties do well, how to plant, feed, care for and eventually harvest.

Bring your questions for Rob, our grower to answer.

Saturday, August 18th 10:00am
We will hold this class rain or shine in our greenhouse covered for shade and out of the elements

CREATING BUTTERFLY GARDENS

The second workshop of Summer 2012 held at 10:00am, Saturday 8/11

Beginning a butterfly gardening can be as simple as choosing flowering plants that will invite adult butterflies to your garden to feed. But if you want to create a butterfly garden that will act as a sanctuary, attracting a wide variety of butterflies while also providing a place where butterflies can grow and multiply, you will first need some simple planning. By considering which plants to grow and evaluating your garden site, you can plant a butterfly garden that will help with the creation of more butterflies.
Attend our class and see how easy and enjoyable the "Butterfly Garden" can be!

A GREAT WAY TO INTRODUCE CHILDREN TO GARDENING AND WILDLIFE!

Rain or shine- butterfly demo including live butterflies will be held in the greenhouse in case of inclement weather
