WE NEED YOUR HELP....Thoughts about a vegetable Co-Op?

Hi there!    Hope this weather pattern takes a vacation and Spring comes for good!  As we prepare for the fabulous weather that will be here before we know it, we wanted to ask for your input..... Many of you have asked us to do a vegetable/herb co-op, and this year we think we would like to explore this idea, but need your thoughts as we dialogue about what this would look like.  

 A few points from our side to start the conversation.....

• We will be growing at our farm in Dover, acclimated plants always grow better, produce better....
• We will be using organic fertilizer. We will not use genetically modified crops, they will be responsibly grown and sustainable, however, this being said, our crops will not be ‘organically certified’.
• We would have pre-paid ‘members’ so we would know how many plants to begin growing, others could join later on but we would have to limit the #’s.
• We are thinking $15- 20 / week for a large bushel of vegetables…..
• We will have heirloom varieties, a much better vegetable...
• We would want to know what to grow…..obviously we would grow a variety of crops, but if no one wants hot peppers we won’t be growing 8 varieties of hotties!
• We would have a window on Thursdays to come gather your produce and herbs at the store, each member would be able to fill their bushel with vegetables of their choosing, (certainly we wouldn’t want someone to take all the tomatoes), but a variety of the selection, on a first come basis.  Friday we would make the remaining produce available to the public for purchase

This is the beginning of putting our thoughts out there to start the conversation with you, our customers.  We want your ideas and suggestions…..is the cost right, what produce would you want….etc.  We are excited about this possibility, we love growing produce at the farm….Rob is an amazing grower…..and sharing that with you would be great.

Hello friends. I hope you all cozy and warm, safely tucked in and enjoying the beauty of the snow, only from the window!

Just an update with our "Orchid Pallooza" open house... considering the weather, we thought it best to postpone the February 1st event and use our snow date of Saturday, February 8th to reschedule.

As our previous post said the day will begin at 9am and go on throughout the day with informative lectures on Wendy's passionate topic, "Orchid". No reservations required. Come and learn, peruse the lovelies, and sample our lite-bites and our signature beverage, Pinecone's own "Orchid Punch". 

Orchid Basics 101 will take place at 10am following with Orchid Arranging at 11am and again at 2pm.

If you have an orchid that may need re-potting, and would like some help, bring it with you and we will instruct you how to get it done.

ORCHID-PALOOZA

Who would have thought we would be frozen in New Bern this winter….didn’t many of us move here to get away from this?

Well, if you are fed up with the cold we have some very exciting news to thaw out those blues!  We have declared it ‘Orchids are Awesome’  week!   We will have our annual Orchid Open House Extravaganza on  February 1st.   We will open at 9 o’clock and throughout the day we will have lite bites, cider, and in the afternoon, our special orchid punch (yes you must be 21 or older).  At 10 and 1 we will have a Q&A on caring for you orchids, repotting, pruning roots, fertilizing, light requirements, etc….you will go home an orchid genius!  At 11 and 2 we will offer an arrangement workshop, you will create your own floral arrangement with an orchid of your choice. as well as house plants, bling, moss, drift wood if you choose, etc.  Your arrangement will be priced according to the items you choose.  

Starting Friday, January 24th, we have our first round of Phalaenopsis to sell.  We are very proud of our own first, home grown, orchid collection and they are ready to go home with you!  Come early and tag an orchid for the class, we will care for it till next Saturday….selections will continue to come in all next week as well.  During our “Orchids are Amazing” event, all orchids will be buy one get each additional orchid at 20% off.  Special pricing on other orchids will also be available.  Spreading the love of orchids!!!!!

In other news, we are offering our most popular class….leaf casting, on February 20th and 27th at 1:30.  We have 15 spots available for each of the classes and space is filling up quickly.  What a wonderful way to beat the blas...play in concrete!  The class will be $45, $55, $65 depending on the size leaf you make.  Sign up by emailing pineconejayne@gmail.com, let us know what size you will be interested in…...or call the store at 252.634.3437.

Orchids 401. Exotic Orchids and Unique Planting ideas.  $30, $40 or $50 / class.  Price depends on orchid size and unique planting material chosen. You will be the envy of the neighborhood!

Orchid Arrangement.  Create your own, one of a kind, arrangement with a multi-stem Phalaenopsis orchid and a variety of ferns, ivy and other decorative foliage.  Cost is $75 with specially priced containers or $60 with your own supplied container. You will leave very proud of yourself!

Let us start the New Year out right!
