Looking at the pages of the calendar turning  so quickly toward winter and therefore the holidays, I thought I would remind everyone that it is time to plant your Amaryllis bulbs so that they will be blooming for Christmas. Our First Lecture of 2011

On Saturday, March 12th at 11:00am Bobbie Waters from Coastal Environmental Partnership will give a lecture on “The Benefits of Compost”.
She will not only educate us on all the wonderful benefits this  organic amendment has to offer our gardens and landscape, but teach us the step by step natural process her company goes through converting raw organic material into a soil conditioner that improves our soil.
The Coastal Environmental Partnership is actually a part of Tuscarora’s landfill right here in Craven County on Old Hwy. 70. The compost as well as mulch can be purchased at the site from Monday-Friday.
We at Pinecone Perennials use this terrific local source of soil amendment on a regular basis both in our arboretum at the store and for personal use at our homes. Come join us for a great learning opportunity, rain or shine!

Get the hoe, rake and shovels ready, it’s time to plant cool weather vegetables. Think of all the delicious side dishes or colorful salads you could enjoy from growing your own veggies. Crazy about Camellias!

Amidst all the dull and dreary outside our door, has been a shining star for  most of the winter – our southern favorite, the Camellia.
It makes me smile to look out my window and see all the colorful blossoms in the whites, reds and pinks in the snow, a cold rain and even when the thermometer dips so low the petals shine with a thin layer of ice.
More special attributes of this wonderful shrub: it is evergreen, is available in low-growing, mid-sized and tall varieties and very important to all of us in this area- the camellia is deer resistant, That is worth reporting!


There will be over 100 beautiful in bud and blooming Camellias delivered to Pinecone Perennials on Wednesday, Feb. 16th. Come and appreciate the beauty!
