Crab Pot trees are also in and selling quickly. Please let us know if you are planning on purchasing one so we could put them aside.

We are also taking orders for our handmade wreaths and the poinsettias. The wreaths we make in many different sizes and in either boxwood, Fraser fir or mixed greens. They are all fresh and made to order when you would like to pick them up.

Our Poinsettias are starting to show some nice color and will be filling up the greenhouse during the week of Thanksgiving – all colors and sizes and all beautiful!

There is quite a selection of orchids in 4” and 5” pots along with a wonderful array of new colorful containers in our greenhouse. Won’t they look smashing combined with a poinsettia and a lovely maidenhair fern?

PRIME TIME PLANTING

Doesn’t it seem like there is always some reason to put off working in our gardens? Too wet, too dry, too hot, too cold, etc.

No excuses now! Fall is the perfect time for shrub planting! Cooler temps mean less watering, less stress on your plants, and healthier plants come next spring.

We have just received a large selection of fresh new shrubs in many varieties including some unusual  ones first time offered such as the “Dwarf Variegated Gardenia”.

Gardenia radicans 'Variegata' blooms

Along with the long list of new shrubs, our pansies have arrived! In 25 varieties, they are sure to make a splash in your fall garden. We also have grown the new trailing pansy called “Cool Wave”. As advertised in all the gardening magazines and Southern Living, this pansy is not only cold hardy, but will flower consistently while spilling down over your window box or container creating a waterfall of color!

Add mums, pumpkins, pansies, ornamental grasses, fall blooming perennials, cabbages and kale to your beds or containers and the result is a wonderful  arrangement of fall color! Let us inspire you or do it your way…

and

butterflybutterfly on ageratum

As you probably assumed, we got rained out on Saturday, August 11th  with this class and have decided to combine it with the Pollinator class on Saturday, August 25th. It will be held rain or shine in our greenhouse where it is shady and comfortable.

This will probably be the most exciting lecture to date as the entire greenhouse has been turned into a butterfly house with many varieties of colorful butterflies flying around you.The caterpillars that will soon turn into the butterfly chrysalis and then butterflies, will be on display and a sampling of the plants used for butterfly food and those special plants that attract them.

This is a great hands-on class for children! They could hold and pet the caterpillars and see the many live butterflies. Each child will be given a sunflower to take home and plant ( great source for our pollinators !) – a fun time for the little ones to learn!

Next workshop: “Fall Perennials”Saturday, Sept. 1st 10am

Fall Vegetable Gardening

Don't give up on your vegetable garden yet!
It is time to pull out some of the summer veggie plants and replace them with the cool weather producers such as broccoli, collards, cauliflower, etc.
Take advantage of the long growing season we are fortunate to have here in the southeast and extend your vegetable harvest into the fall and winter!
At this workshop we will learn which varieties do well, how to plant, feed, care for and eventually harvest.

Bring your questions for Rob, our grower to answer.

Saturday, August 18th 10:00am
We will hold this class rain or shine in our greenhouse covered for shade and out of the elements

CREATING BUTTERFLY GARDENS

The second workshop of Summer 2012 held at 10:00am, Saturday 8/11

Beginning a butterfly gardening can be as simple as choosing flowering plants that will invite adult butterflies to your garden to feed. But if you want to create a butterfly garden that will act as a sanctuary, attracting a wide variety of butterflies while also providing a place where butterflies can grow and multiply, you will first need some simple planning. By considering which plants to grow and evaluating your garden site, you can plant a butterfly garden that will help with the creation of more butterflies.
Attend our class and see how easy and enjoyable the "Butterfly Garden" can be!

A GREAT WAY TO INTRODUCE CHILDREN TO GARDENING AND WILDLIFE!

Rain or shine- butterfly demo including live butterflies will be held in the greenhouse in case of inclement weather

EXPLORING THE EXCITING HIBISCUS PLANT

SATURDAY, AUGUST 4TH WORKSHOP 11:00AM
"EXPLORING THE EXCITING HIBISCUS PLANT

Just looking at the first flower blooming on a hibiscus is exciting in itself. Whether a tropical variety you are enjoying for the summer, or a hardy perennial species that returns year after year, the hibiscus is a plant that deserves center attention in the garden or a special container.

In this workshop, Rob Graveman, an owner of Pinecone Perennials and head grower for most of the plants sold there, will instruct us on how to "winter over" the tropical hibiscus so we can again enjoy it the following summer, share the many amazing varieties of both the tropical and perennial types and expand our knowledge on the care of these wonderful plants.

Stay tuned for the Pinecone Perennials Workshop Series schedule held each Saturday at 11:00am now through December.
