Flowering Apricot Trees

We have received shipment of a wonderful, almost unknown tree - Prunus mume, the Japanese flowering apricot.
At 20 feet, it is an ideal size for small gardens or fine accent for larger landscapes. In late spring and through summer, handsome dark, green foliage, dramatically covered, dark green stems and a pleasant rounded canopy distinguish the apricot tree. But it is during the dark days of winter that this tree displays it 's unique charm. Starting in early January depending on the site and the weather , the flowering apricot produces beautiful, delicate, fragrant flowers over many weeks just when you need them the most. The double pink blossoms have a spicy fragrance and is just a joy to visit in the garden when there is nothing else yet blooming.

We decided to move our little shed building and open up the second half of the garden center - it is now an unbelievable view from the time you enter straight through to the arboretum entrance. We still have a bit of construction to do but we believe it is a tremendous improvement. Come see for yourselves!

January - A new beginning

The month of January is named after "Janus", the Roman God of beginnings. This first month of the new year let us start by relaxing, restoring and pampering ourselves. We have all made it through the holidays and now are dealing with unusual cold keeping us snuggled indoors.

We can do this by nurturing our gardening instincts with brightly colored plants . Did you know that studies have proven the present of plants in the household or office place help you live longer, healthier and happier lives? By simply adding a plant or two nearby you can improve air quality and create positive and happy emotions.

Pinecone Perennials can help! By the end of next week our greenhouse will be filled with orchids, ferns, anthuriums and many other wonderful foliage and flowering plants.

Come delight, imagine, and nurture!
