  1. I truly love the "lenten roses", too. They also make lovely cut flowers if treated properly. After cutting, I scrape the skin off the bottom inch using a sharp knife, before carefully dipping the ends into VERY hot water to open the capillaries. A very tiny amount of chlorine bleach (1 teaspoon per gallon of water) will help avoid slimy, bacteria laden water which the flowers cannot drink. A daily change of water is suggested also. Hellebores will also leave a daily souvenir of spent anthers around their vase, but it's not sticky or staining. By all means, bring them in for an up close and personal relationship and further enjoy their distinctly individual appearance. By the way, my flowers, left outside to their own devices, are pretty good at setting seed and then producing loads of tiny babies!
