Grand Opening and Laura

An event announcement that needs to be put on your calendar, phone, computer, desk and of course your refrigerator!

Friday, April 17th at 6:30 pm we are having a
Grand Opening of our new
"Purple Orchid"
 gift shop.

We will also have local featured artist of the season, Laura Overman, a talented photographer of nature there to display many of her very beautiful photos both in frames ready to be hung and as photo cards for you to send or frame yourself.
Wine and lite bites will be served and you can stroll through the garden center in the evening when the little white lights make it seem almost magical.
Stay tuned for more details...

"Garden to Gourmet" classes...

From time to time we will hold classes called "Garden to Gourmet" where you will learn about particular vegetables and taste delicious food made from them.
The first class will be held this coming Saturday, March 28th at 1pm
I will tempt you with Lettuce Soup. Yes you read it right. Lettuce Soup. Easy, peasy and nutrious as well. The other exciting recipe is Mock Potato Salad where I use cauiflower in place of potatoes which makes it better for those watching their intake of starchy, high carbs. It will surprise and have you running to pick up some fresh veggies or out to the yard plant your own!
Come join us rain or shine and bring a friend!

Happy, Happy Spring!

Tomato lecture correction

Correction on mis-typed date for the Tomato lecture...
The published date should have read: The "Trouble with Tomatoes" lecture on Saturday, March 14th, not the 12th, but knowing my smart customers, you all have probably already realized that.

Also, for all of those needing a seven day garden fix, we are now open on Sundays for the remaining of the year from 12-4pm through the end of March and starting in April our hours will be: Monday-Friday 8:30-6pm
                       Saturday 9-5pm and Sunday 10-4pm

Trouble with Tomatoes lecture

Just a reminder of our first lecture for 2015 -

The "Trouble with Tomatoes", this coming Saturday, March 12th at 11:00 in the garden center, rain or shine. Our own grower, Rob will explain the whys, hows, do's and don'ts in the tomato world. He will also describe some of the vegetable varieties he has chosen to grow for this year's growing menu. Rob is the garden guru when it comes to vegetables. You will learn quite a bit on the subject and be entertained as well so mark it on your calendar as something smart and fun to do this weekend!

A few more bits of gardening interest:

  • All of our cool weather veggies are in waiting to be popped into the spring soil.
  • Our new gift shop "The Purple Orchid" is almost finished as far as the construction goes. This is a very special new additon to Pinecone. Just bursting at the seams with a vast variety of home and garden related items, it will surprise and delight!
  • Trucks full of shrubs and trees arrive weekly and we regulary take special orders for selections we do not have presently but you are looking for to complete your "Wish List".
  • We are now taking orders for Easter lilies. please call in your order no later than March 23rd.

Hold on, We are almost there!

Warm thoughts...
I just thought I would reach out with a few warm and cheery
things and happenings for you all to think about:

  • We are only a few weeks away from warmer-to-stay weather ( and no one better complain about it when it gets here!)
  • Our weekly Fresh Flower Special is White Hydrangea bunches - take some home for a special dinner, a thoughtful gift or a "just for you, make you feel good treat".
  • Our Greenhouse is getting closer to being totally revamped into a lovely, little gift shop. We are so excited about the transformation we are actually in the process of changing the business name - Pinecone Perennials will soon be known as "Pinecone Home and Garden". The same Pinecone Perennials quality and friendly faces, just a super new addition that we think will excite all of you!
  • This coming week if the crazy weather permits, we will have the first Cool Weather vegetables available for those chomping at the bit to get down and dirty!
  • Our first event of 2015 will be Vegetable Gardening 101 -"The Trouble with Tomatoes" presented by the grower himself, Rob Graveman on Saturday, March 14th at 11:00. This will be held, weather be darned, in our new gift shop if necessary.
  • We need some help - we are looking to hire 1 or 2 cashiers to work part-time during April, May and June. Plant knowledge would be helpful, customer service and register usage would be a real plus, but most important, one must be friendly, follow directions, not mind the elements, and be able to endure being on your feet during your hours of work. If interested, please contact Wendy at 229-4783.
  • If you haven't done so already, any of you who have a Smart Phone should really sign up for our very own Pinecone Home and Garden App! There are weekly specials listed on there that only those with the App will receive. Think of it as a Secret Garden Club! It is fun and there are savings all of us gardeners can use.

Ta Da! and Cabin Fever

Cabin fever anyone?
If you enjoy being outdoors
and gardening, like me, you probably
have "CFS" right
about now.
That is, Cabin Fever Syndrome.
Well as usual, if I am the least amount of being bored,
I get in trouble. This year my
"trouble" is the best I have gotten
into in quite awhile...
I was hoping to wait until my
new project would be completely
finished before I let the cat out
of the bag, but my excitement
is not allowing me to have a good
night's rest until I share it with

all of you!
We have done quite a bit of
construction on our greenhouse,
adding a wonderful wood floor,
new entrance, etc. in order to
add a new addition to Pinecone Perennials.
Ta Da! ...
"Pinecone Home and Garden".
We are now carrying more gifts,
household goodies, and even furniture!
This is something I have wanted
to do for a long time so I felt,
no better time than the present!
We still have quite a way to go
with the construction end of this
project, but I wanted to allow
all of you to have a sneak peak
of what is to come.
When we are finished with the
front entrance, we are planning
a really fun Grand Opening
after hours party.
Until then, please stop in
to see our progress.
It will be nice to see all of you
and it is a good reason to get out of the house!
